They all share the same desire: to offer melodic, fluid, and accessible progressive rock, centered on the feeling of journey and the enhancement of atmospheres. This eponymous debut album clearly embodies this approach, with a rich and precise production designed to immerse the listener in a cohesive, reassuring, and enveloping universe.

From the very first minutes, Ben Craven’s guitar establishes itself as the guiding thread. His highly lyrical playing traces instantly memorable melodic lines, serving as an anchor for a listening experience that unfolds at measured tempos. The tracks progress smoothly, favoring the breathing room of the arrangements and a sense of continuity that gives the impression of an album conceived as a single movement. The alternation between vocal tracks (often in harmonies) and instrumentals further enhances this fluidity, creating a natural dynamic and avoiding any feeling of monotony.

The shadow of Pink Floyd is ever-present, but it clearly leans towards melodic Gilmour rather than Waters’ more conceptual or narrative constructions. This lineage is felt in the care given to the solos, the importance placed on textures, and the way the themes are allowed to gradually unfold. At times, one also thinks of the Swiss band Cosmos , or to a lesser extent Sound of Contact , particularly in the way immersive instrumental passages coexist with more structured songs (‘For All Mankind’), without ever disrupting the album’s overall balance.

‘Provenance’ stands out as one of the album’s most poignant moments, with its fragile guitar and delicate piano conversing in a suspended atmosphere. In contrast, ‘Terraforming’ unfolds over sixteen minutes, a slow crescendo playing on repetition, accumulation, and subtle variations to develop its themes. The track alone encapsulates the band’s philosophy: taking their time, building moods, and prioritizing progression over immediate impact.

While the album impresses with its coherence, ease of listening, and quality songwriting, it also leaves a slight impression of restraint. Ambient Den mostly operates within a very Floydian comfort zone , favoring clarity, melody, and atmosphere over genuine risk-taking. One might have wished at times to see them push their boundaries more, toughen up their sound, or explore less familiar territory, as they do in the funky ‘Future History Part 2’. Nevertheless, it remains a very enjoyable debut album, driven by a real attention to detail and an obvious mastery of form, laying a solid foundation. More than a culmination, “Ambient Den” feels like a promise: that of a band clearly capable of expanding its horizons, and from whom we now expect the courage to reach a new level. – Official website

CLOSE GROUPS:
DAVE KERZNER , COSMOS , SOUND OF CONTACT , DAVID GILMOUR See more recommended groups

Original:

CALGEPO (15.01.2026)
4/5
(0) Avis (0) commentaire(s)

– Site officiel

GROUPES PROCHES:
DAVE KERZNER, COSMOS, SOUND OF CONTACT, DAVID GILMOUR Voir plus de groupes conseillés

https://www.musicwaves.fr/frmReview.aspx?ID=22149&REF=AMBIENT-DEN_Ambient-Den Translation: “With their first self-titled album, Ambient Den offers a first fluid and melodic journey, very Floydian in spirit, which seduces with its coherence and gentleness.” CALGEPO (15.01.2026)4/5 Born from the meeting of three experienced Australian musicians, Ambient Den brings together Ben Craven (guitar), known in particular for his album ” Great and Terrestrial… Read More »2026-01-15 – Music Waves (Review)

[4

post-500","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-press
["GET
