The band name has a different origin: it’s a random mix of the first names of band members Tim Bennett , Ben Craven , and Dean Povey , resulting in Ambient Den. It’s a fair choice.

One name on this list will likely be familiar to some, as Ben Craven has already been featured here, which gives a first indication of the direction this work is taking. The album consists of six core tracks, with four of these six tracks included as singles as a bonus, resulting in a total running time of 67 minutes. That’s a perfectly acceptable approach.

The tracks with vocals are sometimes a bit mainstream, but (like ‘For All Mankind’) they turn out to be real earworms after a few listens. What truly makes this trio’s sound distinctive, however, is Ben Craven ‘s guitar work . A prime example of this is the instrumental long track ‘Terraforming’, which clocks in at 16.5 minutes. It features plenty of fantastic guitar solos that are reminiscent of Pink Floyd, especially when a slide guitar is used. The 9-minute ‘Earthrise’, on the other hand, brings to mind RPWL.

They consistently stay within the melodic realm; you shouldn’t expect any jarring attacks or metallic outbursts. It’s a feel-good album, plain and simple. The musicians’ collaboration began during the pandemic, when Craven and Bennett met for spontaneous jam sessions. When drummer Povey joined them, it became clear that this lineup would be working on an album. And this debut album is definitely promising and gives hope for more to come.

Rating: 11/15 points

Original:

By Juergen Meurer on 12. August 2025

Bewertung: 11/15 Punkten

Translation: By Juergen Meurer on August 12, 2025 A new band whose name might lead you to place them in the wrong category, as they’re not really ambient music, but primarily melodic progressive rock, which also incorporates a touch of space rock or even funk (in ‘Future History Part 2’).
